In this assignment I was struggling with what to do. Once I settled upon the Jin Mao Tower as my building I found a couple of pictures of the building from different angles. I took one picture and made a black and white livetrace from it, using the red from the PRC flag as main colour for the negative space and making this the background. I used the other picture of the tower I had and manually drew simplified geometric forms outlining the pagoda-like top, since I consider this to be the most interesting part of the building. I then set this as a black silhouette again the red and white background. I also got a small picture of the PRC flag and used it as a template for making my own vector version of the signature stars, which I placed in the top left corner of the poster, since the tower is a source of national pride in PRC.
The font I used for the text was Futura with various point sizes, thicknesses, kerning and leading.
