This took longer than I expected it to, but I am pretty happy with the results. I discuss some of my process in my paper, however here are some important notes. For the most part I avoided Live Trace altogether, instead opting for drawing the characters by hand using the pen tool, often having some of the designer's work in the background as a template off which to work. There were several instances where I had to create characters from scratch since I couldn't find an appropriate model in the pieces I was referencing. Initially, I designed the poster in black & white, however I wanted to incorporate some of Fella's colour ideas into the final composition so I brought my black & white version into Photoshop and overlayed colour on certain characters (red, blue, green, and yellow), adding some texture and layer styles to give it a pencil coloured look reminiscent of some of my favorite work of Fella's. I then brought this back into Illustrator and set the image as a layer under the original black & white vector image, allowing me to preserve the crispness of the original while still having the more 'hand drawn' feel for the colouring.
